Building and maintaining performance sports cars

This site was started to document the installation of a 1997 Buick 3800 V6 Supercharged L67 Series II engine and transmission into a 1985 Pontiac Fiero 2M4. With this engine swap, the result (on paper at least) is a small, two seater, mid-engine, rear wheel drive sports car with disc brakes all round and a similar power to weight ratio as a Porsche Boxster.  After completing the project and driving it on the road for a few summers, I can say it was a blast to drive but I missed having a manual gearbox and when driven at the limit, the handling and brakes just weren’t quite there.   I considered installing a manual gearbox and looked at modifications to the front suspension but in the end, reluctantly decided to sell and move on to another project.  The best car I have owned was a rally prepped Ford Escort Mk II that consisted of RS2000 power-train and running gear in a 1.1 shell.  I decided to get a front engine, rear wheel drive configuration and found a 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo.  Even though I am not interested in doing a ‘restore’ on the Porsche, I hadn’t anticipated how tough it was going to be to find parts at anywhere near reasonable prices.  When the Fiero sold, I was in a bout of frustration with the slow progress made on the Porsche and came across a 2005 Mazda RX-8 that was running but needed a bit of work so was going cheap .. I ended up taking that on as well!

The overall objective is to build and tune cars (and now dirt-bikes) to provide a great driving experience.  Come in, have a look around, absorb the information and please get in touch if you have ideas/suggestions.
